Hi Oddie, Was Mr. Hannopol our teacher in Zoology? I remember having him as a teacher. Or was it Dr. Rodriguez? LOL "demented moment" ....

Manongdo said...

I think so. Is he fat and short, medyo nakakalbo? I don't think it was Dr. Rodriguez coz he was just nice and friendly but he was always impressed with Mel. LOL. most of the male population was impressed with Mel :-)

Mildred said...

Mel, I think our teacher in Zoology lecture was Dr.Rodriguez and Mr.Hanopol was our Laboratory teacher. That's what my 50 year old brain remembered- and by the way, my eldest sister and her family reside permanently in Australia therefore I can visit you there too. See you there.

oddie said...

I think Mildred is right....can not remember who is who....Cynthia, Mr Hanopol is not short and fat..think that's Dr. Rodriguez...any other male teachers? can not recall anymore....

Melle said...

Hi Mildred. Yes, come and visit me too. That way, I don't have to attend the reunion in July, I can just wait for all of you to come and visit. How about organizing a class '78 reunion in Sydney? How does that sound? Cecile Herrera visited me in February 2005. Our summer months are December to February and winter is June till August, exact opposite of what you have in America.

BTW,Another male teacher is Mr Agoncillo. He taught Humanities. Do you remember him?

Anonymous said...

Yap Melle, Mr. Agoncillo is the brother of Aleli Agoncillo-Quirante. Ano nga ba tinuro ni Aleli noon? Cute si Mr. Agoncillo and they are both children of the famous historian, Teodoro Agoncillo.Mr. Hanopol is not related to Mike Hanopol, tama ba ako..lots of laugh.

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

Mr. Mike Hanapol was our Zoology teacher(lab nga ba?). He is medium height, fat and thin hair.
Mr. Agoncillo was cute, pero parang bakla naman ata.
I would like to visit Sydney someday. But Mel you better attend our reunion in San Francsico.

Mildred said...

We still have another male teacher. Remember our STATISTICS TEACHER, I can't recall his name. Whoever can recall his name will get the prize of being the most intact brain cells of the class. Go for it...

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

Mildred,

Ruth C. said...

How about our Religion teacher, Old Testament/New Testament Survey? Mr. Portacio ba? I can visualize him pero I am not sure about his name..

oddie said...

don't even remember their faces except Dr. Rodriguez,& Mr Sy the bakla who is now the chief psychologist of San Diego School District.....
Brain cells are now depleted......

Susan T said...

Veron, I think Mike Hanopol is the singer,he he he. But you are right Melle we have a teacher named Hanopol but cannot remember his name and what subject.I remembered Mr. Agoncillo crush natin yon di ba. Julie, you are right, he is the grandson or greatgrandson of the famous historian, kaya siya Teodoro Agoncillo III. Pero there is another cute one our Political Science teacher, payat and dark pero cute. Does anyone remember him?

Manongdo said...

I did'nt know we had that many male teachers, how come I dated only one...hi..hi..hi..Just teasing :) One of our male instructors, I forgot which one and which class, boldly stated that "if you are ugly you should not teach" to which Odie whispered to me "has he looked at the mirror lately". I almost fell off my chair laughing, luckily we did not get caught but it made the class bearable afterwards....... Cynthia

Susan T said...

You really keep me going... Thinking about all these male teachers of ours at this wee hours of the night. I remember now, Dr. Rodriquez is our Microbiology teacher,
Dr. Pasion is our Anatomy teacher.
or maybe I am wrong. I do not know why I am thinking Mr. Tolentino is our Political Science teacher. Can anyone correct me?

Susan T said...

Melle,
I know why you remembered Mr.Hanopol our Zoology Lab teacher. You cried or we cried when we had the dissected cat. Pinalabas tayo noon sa klase kasi we were crying. Remote memories but fogged (again denial). I also agreed with Cynthia, me crush sa iyo si
Dr. Rodriquez and most of our male teachers. I also remembered our male Spanish teacher, our final exam is to present a spanish dance (cha cha in Tea for Two music)... still remembering

Ruth C. said...

Susan,
I remember na our Political Science teacher-- cute nga, medyo payat, maganda ang voice niya, you can see his Adam's apple but I forgot his name!!
How about si Dr. Cantos sa Microbiology?

Ruth C. said...

Susan,
Mr. Tolentino nga ang Political Science teacher natin..

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

Mr. Politanciano...tall , dark and arrogant. Was selling Life Insurance in the 80's when I was in California. Bumuli naman ako...
Mr. Tolentino was our Political Science teacher or was it Mr. Agoncillo?

Mildred said...

Summarizing our male teachers--
Anatomy- Dr. Pasion-dissected a cat and other parts of the human body
Microbiology- Dr. Cantos- strict but smart lecturer
Political Science- Mr. Tolentino- cute, tall, thin, good voice, prominent adam's apple and native Ilocano
Humanities- Mr. AGONCILLO- replaced Mrs. Quirante, his sister because of Maternity Leave- he was cute but had a girly disposition
Zoology Lecture- Dr. Rodriguez- short, fair in complexion, joked a lot
Zoology Lab- Mr. Hanopol-medium in built, muscular, thinning hair- we dissected frogs not cats
Theology- Father Pascual- tall, dark, with eyeglasses and now selling Insurance in U.S.- called me one time if I want to buy one
Spanish and Theology-Mr. Portacio- very short, weird and funny looking
Psychology-Dr. SY- replaced the female teacher(our Guidance Counselor-whose husband passed away, we went to Loyola Memorial)-
he is the Chief Psychologist of San Diego District
STATISTICS- tall ,with glasses, acted strict and picky, I still would like to know his name, please help me---

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

Mildred said...

You are right Veron, Father Polintan nga pala, where did I get Father Pascual? But he really did call me several years ago and told about his Insurance Business. I still would like to know our STATISTICS teacher and I will not rest until someone tells me his name.....

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

Hindi ba ang Statistics natin ay
5th year na.

Mildred said...

Yes, we took STATISTICS during our 5th year but not under Dean SANTOS. I remember that a male teacher from TRINITY COLLEGE taught us that suject.Dean taught us RESEARCH AND NURSING Jurisprudence.

Melle said...

Hi Everyone. reading all your comments just made me laugh and laugh, I was almost rolling down the carpet. I do not remember Fr Pascual and Mr Portacio at all. I do not even remember doing Statistics in class. I remember agar agar is Dr Cantos. He became the Medical Director of St Luke's Hospital for so many years. Do you remember the librarian and the lady in the canteen? Are they the moms of our classmates? How about Manong Danny, the dorm guard and Manong Willy the photographer? And Manong Rene of the Dietary Dept? Also remembered Mrs. Patuggalan (Pediatrics) Mrs Lavarias & Mrs Acosta (Medical-Surgical Nursing) and Mrs Sawit (Psych) It's good to reminisce the past, we have so many fond memories of our college days. Did we have a school bus, how did we travel to Santa Maria Bulacan? Did we sing "Climb Every Mountain" during our Pinning ceremony?

Ruth C. said...

Melle,
We had a van that takes us all over the place,Bulacan, San Lazaro, Psychiatric hospital, half way house, etc, driven by Manong Willy..
Wow! Nakaka-miss din ang St. Luke's! We had fond memories talaga!!

Susan T said...

Naku talagang papatayin ninyo ako sa kakatawa. Nakakamiss talaga ang college days, we really had fond memories. "Male Teacher" is fun. ODDIE, THANK YOU FOR STARTING THIS.
Mildred give it up, I think the reason why we cannot remember our Statistics teacher because we never had Statistics. Dean Santos is definitely our Reasearch teacher. I remember taking Tests and Measurement in our 5th year but the teacher I cannot remember. Mildred could this be your Statistics teacher you are remembering?

Manongdo said...

Yes Susan I remember you but I can't remember your last name. I remember your face and the friend we had in 1st and 2nd year in college who had a crush on you unfortunately she didn't make it to the 3rd year.. Do you remember her name? Gosh my brain cells are really old and foggy but my heart is really full after reading all your blogs...:-)

Susan T said...

Cynthia, I am glad that you still remember me. My last name is "Salazar" and my married name is Tadique. Your long term memory still working fine. I remember her last name (Ms. Geronimo)but I cannot recall her name. Am I bad.

oddie said...

hi Susan..still remember you as Salazar..Cynthia, what happened to your memory? you forgot Susan's last name!!! Si Spain ba teacher of what????don't remember him as teaching..all i can remember is thinking that he was too old for you Cynthia...Lord forgive me but did you like Prunes then??????just joking....i can just imagine you laughing and falling from where you are sitting now...I remember when we counted a teacher's word repetition..,think the words were " You know" ..who won with the bet, you or me?? di ba it was guessing a number on how many " you know" that teacher was going to say???

Yes we had Statistics during our 5th year and teacher was this tall guy with glasses, always wore white polo barong, and hair was military cut..can't remember more

oddie said...

Melle, is Mrs Patugalan still alive? I know that Mrs. Lavarias died na, di ba?? and someone said Mrs Espiritu is still alive...remember her calling Grace Chugsayan for an answer..she would start with, " yes, Ms Chug chug chug chug sa yan" sounded like a moving train to me then...chug chug chug chug...now say it to yourself and you'll remember what I mean.....

Melle said...

Tama ka Susan, we never had Statistics. I checked my TCQC official transcript of records and what we had was Educ 138 Tests and Measurements during the 2nd semester of our 5th year. I was informed lately by one of our classmate that there was an incident in college when someone wrote the word "MADAYA" in the blackboard when classes was suspended in the afternoon. I do not remember this incident anymore. Kung sino ka man, pinapatawad na kita! (Easter naman ngayon) LOL I think I wasn't around that time so I really didn't know it ever happened.
Basta ako I always had giggling moments with most of you, yung tawa ng tawa hanggang majingle sa katatawa, sometimes uncontrollable kaya meron akong laugh lines! I really miss you all and I'm really glad we found each other again and we can have fun just doing this.

Melle said...

Hi Oddie. I don't really have any info about our teachers. I've lost touched since 1980 even though we lived in the Philippines and Gary remained active in St. Luke's I didn't bother to visit at all. Sama ko ano? I only learned Ms Alcantara passed away in 2005 when I visited the SLNA website which Veron sent in her first e-mail. It might be a good idea to research on them. They would be in their 60's or 70's now if I am correct. Maybe Veron can find out from Ms Rebortira. (Pretty please Veron????) Thanks.

Mildred said...

Mel,
The TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS SUBJECT is the equivalent of STATISTICS. Oddie and I were RIGHT, GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE. We had this male STATISTICS teacher from TRINITY COLLEGE, who wore eyeglasses, white POLO BARONG and hair was military cut.I knew it because I checked my transcript and I even got an A. I was also seating in front of the class so I couldn't forget his face. He made an impact on me because he was so picky and kind of annoying. As I SAID Research CLASS was taught by Dean Santos and it is entirely different from TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS OR STATISTICS.So please believe me, Iam very positive that he existed. My mind is still intact, in fact my husband just change my medication to a better one.Iam more calm now, he-he-he.

oddie said...

yes Mildred, Test and Measurements is a branch of Statistics, for nurses here in the States it is called Practical Statistics for Nurses, in fact there is a book on it. I took it again in 1998 for grad school. The one that we had was > 20 years ago so the school here did not accept it even if St. Lukes sent the University the description of the subject.
Mildred, your husband must be giving you a potent brain med, or maybe you put the rollers on at night to charge your brain cells????he-he-he
I love these comments in this blog, they are so funny.........

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

We have to help Mildred find out who that "male" teacher who taught us that "Statistic" or else Rene will have a tough time treating hIS poor wife...She also might end up not removing her curles ( brain cells still charging)and might forget to remove them when she brings Rene his lunch at the hospital...Mildred, you are so funny... I like the way you "are charging our batteries and brain cells." I feel that you are our "medicine". LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE.Thanks. God Bless.

Mildred said...

FINALLY, THANKS for believing in me, Oddie and Veron. I knew I was not making it up. My hallucinations are diminishing now, I have improved a lot since I signed up to this blog. Verbalizing my thoughts is very therapeutic!! By the way, Iam still waiting for Mel and Oddie to write their "I AM 50--. We are so eager to hear from you--

Ruth C. said...

Yes, Mildred. I also agree w/ you. I remember yong male teacher natin sa Tests and Measurements. Hindi ko na nga lamang matandaan din ang name niya..Mag-settle down ka baka maalala mo:):):)..I have been trying to recall his name magmula noong nabanggit mo pero talagang I can't..Ang hirap talagang ang mga brain cells ay unti-unti ng nagde-degenerate, Oo..
Basta mga cute hindi ko yata makalimutan:):):):)..He,he,he...

oddie said...

Mildred..am still looking for words to describe the ' I'm 50+" kasi sa kakahanap ko, nakalimutan ko kung ano ang hinahanap ko...talagang may senile dementia na!!!
do you guys remember a classmate by the name of Celeste Barrios???
Couldn't forget her, kasi I remember she was always having Bible Study with some girls and was always talking about Jesus...so one time I said, why do you always talk about Jesus, wala na bang ibang topic? and she answered.." di ba pag mahal mo ang isang tao,you always talk about that person, like your mother, or your boyfriend? the same thing with me, mahal ko si Jesus so I always talk about HIM." Nice answer di ba? wonder where she is now...must thank her.......

Anonymous said...

Oddie,
Celeste Barrios, the name rings a bell. But do you remember Margarita Roco? Kapatid ni Bembol Roco, the artista. Kasi noong AB courses natin, sa kanila kami nag-meet. Patti, Ttat if you can help me recollect. College was real fun for me na nakalimutan ko nga high school ko. Dahil sa inyong lahat. You are the best batch and classmates! And kung tama ang alaala ko, we even did a program sa Orthopedic Hospital for the patient ba! And the halfway house, do you remember? I remember kasi doon ako natutong mag-mahjong, can you believe daw, mga, i don't like to say the word, and nagturo sa akin ng mahjong! lots of laugh...

Anonymous said...

Oddie, Mrs. Pattugalan is still around, the last I heard of her was when she stood as a wedding sponsor together with her husband General (retired) Pattugalan. Her husband belongs to the navy squad, if I am not mistaken. Big time and mga teacher natin, but what I remember most about her is her kindness to us and broad acceptance of teen girls so new about pediatrics.

Melle said...

Hi Mildred! Don't worry I'll post mine soon. I didn't realize you were eager to hear from me. I'll start to write one and send it ASAP. BTW, is there a deadline for this?
I hope I don't forget my assignment. Julie can you please remind me. Thanks.

Mildred said...

Oddie, I am so glad that you remembered what Celeste Barrios said. It is really very important to have a personal relationship with Jesus. Being a Christian in the real sense of the word is a deep faith and trust in JESUS CHRIST as your personal SAVIOR. And if you love someone, like you love JESUS, you will always talk about HIM , anywhere, any place, any time. Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts about it. May GOD BLESS YOU.

Mildred said...

MELLE, of course Iam eager to hear from you. Take your time!! Is tomorrow so soon for you?-he-he-he

Melle said...

Alright, if you insist, it will be my pleasure. As long as it makes you happy Mildred!

Manongdo said...

Happy Easter everyone, I enjoyed reading the blogs, LOL. all those fond memories :)

Susan T said...

Oddie, ako din, when I took my Masters here in the US the school I went to did not recognize our undergrad Tests and Measurements grade kaya I have to take Statistics. Sayang pa man din I got 1.5 grade I think this was my highest grade in St Lukes.
Mildred, we do believe he exist, but still cannot remember him. Mukhang tulog kami ni Melle sa klase or nasa Cubao or QUAD kami nag lalakwatsa,LOL. Julie, I remember Margarita Roco, she always hang out with Verma Potenciano. I remember them being nice and humble kahit na mayayaman sila. Melle, like you I do not know about the incident but I do remember Dean Santos being mad at our class, worst class daw tayo. I do not know why but I am associating him as an ER doctor than Labor and Delivery. Do you also remember merong arrogant na pala sigaw na OR doctor, sa nerbiyos ko nalaglag ko tuloy iyong bronchoscope, hindi niya ako mapagalitan kasi it was his fault. Cannot remember his name, we all hate him. HAPPY EASTER everyone kahit na one day late.

Mildred said...

susan, Dr. Fernandez is an OB&GYNE specialist and that I AM very positive. I worked with him in the Delivery Room for 1 year after graduating from College. Sometimes Consultants visit E.R. for some special cases. RUTH, the handsome Anesthesiologist was Dr. KING. He was madly in love with Baby Chua- class 77.

Melle said...

I don't remember Tests & Measurements because I might have found it an easy subject. Ayaw ko nga, I had a childhood experience kasi of drowning in a pool after diving. So she gave me a low grade.
I think that could be the reason why most of us did not bother to reconnect after graduation. How many of us have really been paying alumni dues and are actively participating in homecomings? But we can revive the spirit. It's not too late. It's good we could communicate now and maybe we can organize more mini-reunions in the future. Had I known Oddie was in San Diego, we could have met up in 1999. Gary & I travelled with the kids to the US annually since 1990 hanggand nagsawa na sila.

oddie said...

Melle, anytime, punta kayo rito sa SD..our place is close to the golf course...natatanaw mula sa house and walking distance lang yoong isa, called Eagle Crest Golf course and the other one about 1 mile called Vineyard golf course, kasi tabi niya yoong Orfila Vineyard...we don't play golf...pero ang feedback noong Optometrist ko, mas maganda raw maglaro doon sa Vineyard...who knows!
Si Dean Santos medyo di nga tayo favorite children noon, kasi mga rebelde raw tayo...and tama ka, may be that's the reason why we don't get in touch with her...In fact Ms Rebotira gave me Dean's e-mail pero hesitant ako, kasi I was never close to her, kasi lagi niya akong pinapagalitan noon, mas close ako kay Miss Alcantara, bless her soul!
Mildred, I remember a Dr. King but I could not put a face to that name. Who was the doctor who became addicted to Demerol?? Is he dead now???
The only one who I've seen so far is Dr. Ben Camacho..remember him? the petite guy...he is a Filipino concert promoter as well as owner of buildings and restaurant here in SD..successful siya, even though mukhang gender challenged, kasi may ruffles yoong shirt collar niya..he he he.......
Mildred..who is Baby Chua??? you know who else is here in SD too? The 1977cum laude Jocelyn Lim..she is now a Tolentino...

Mildred said...

CLASSMATES,
Maybe Dean Santos got upset with us one time, but I don't think she really hated our class. As a proof of that, she chose me, Princess and Nancy Viscarra to work as CLINICAL INSTRUCTORS. That means, she still had faith in our class,CLASS 78. You know how picky she was when it comes to CLINICAL INSTRUCTORS. "WE MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING GOOD," right Cynthia?
Oddie, Baby Chua is fair in complexion, a little bit short, Chinese eyes, very nice and quiet person. I think she married Dr. King?
Susan, please tell AMY BENAVIDEZ to join the blog. I know that she has a good testimony about her life. We want to learn from her.

oddie said...

Mildred...di naman hate...that is a strong word..siguro "not favorite", it's good na she chose the 3 of you...where is Nancy now? still in PI? know Princess is in Chicago....
What is Dr. King's first name?? is it Kong? joke lang...can't remember him, really!
Susan, who was the palasigaw na Md sa OR??? where was I when these were happening? was this when you were already staff nurse sa hosp?
what happened to Veron, how come she is not blogging?

Mildred said...

Yeah you are right, hate is a strong word! Come to think of it, she might not even remember that we were rebelde at that time.(30 years ago is along time)
I can't remember Dr. King's first name, I'll ask Rene later, but definitely not KONG.
What happened to Veron? Maybe she is busy watching her favorite Chinese and Korean movies or better yet busy knitting the blankets that she is suppose to give me next winter.

Melle said...

Mildred, The first name is King and his family name is Santos. I think his real name is not King,(mukhang Anastacio or Ambrosio) LOL. He married Baby Chua of Class 77 and they have 5 sons ( last time I saw Baby was about 15 years ago) in a Montessori that my kids attended so I don't know if they had more kids.

I hope we can find Nancy Vizcarra and Laurie Mendoza. Have not heard from them at all. I tried to contact Laurie's sister without success.I will keep trying.

Ruth C. said...

Susan,
The name of the OR doctor/surgeon ay Dr. Charles Haun or Haan or Hahn ba? He is the doctor who wanted the instrument handed to him na firm and magkli-click sa hand niya, parang may sound..Terror talaga..

Melle said...

Dr. Charles Harn ( May he rest in peace!) was the medical director of St. Luke's during our time.

Susan T said...

Mildred: Amy is aware of our website pero wala siyang computer right now, sira. I told her she is missing a lot kaya she is getting the replacement soon. If you are sure about Dr. Fernandez then I am still missing the name of that ER doctor and that rude and arrogant OR doctor. I'll ask Cecile, she may know him.
Oddie, me too, I am closer to
Ms. Alcantara, I remember her as the kind, compassionate, non- judgemental mentor. I remember Dean Santos as aloof, and distant teacher. I do not know why. I looked at my college transcript I had another 1.5 grade,(the rest are 2s and 3s) and that was from Dean Santos under Research subject, maybe she liked me too but I do not know why I remember her as such.
Melle, I am with you I hope we find Laurie Mendoza. I want to thank her because she is the reason why I hated cigarette. Remember that day when we tried to smoke in college, she gave us Malboro one puff and we all coughed and coughed, we hated it right there and then. Never wanted one and never will. Kumusta na kaya siya. I remember our swimming days. I crossed the pool without breathing for fear of drowning. Pero naka pasa rin.
Oddie, Cynthia, Melle and Mildred: Just to let you know, nakakaloka kayo. I cannot stop laughing reading your blogs. Continue blogging.

Susan T said...

Dr. Charles Harn is not the one. The one I am looking for is a Filipino doctor, not so tall, medium built, parang curly hair. If I am not mistaken he is the one that operated Eddie Rodriquez (the actor)when he had lung cancer, kaya mayabang, kasi magaling.
Dr. Harn is my friend, he hired us to decorate the lobby of St. Lukes one Christmas (I think 1978 or 1979)after graduation. Staff nurse na ako noon, Kasi he admired how we decorated our unit. Oh so, much memories.

Ruth C. said...

Susan,

Susan, when are you going to write your "I AM 50.." Melle followed my bidding and she did a good job. We want to know more about you and especially your smart son. We will be waiting...

Mildred,
Iam planning to write one but when I read the posts of Patti, Melle, Geegee and Ruth, I got intimidated.Wish I can write like them. One of these days I will but for now I still do not have the guts.
Ruth, I think you are right it is Dr. Reyes who operated the actor but he is not the one I am searching for. Oh well thanks for trying.

Mildred said...

SUSAN,
This is not a writing contest and I hope that you don't feel that way. We love you and don't get intimidated. You are not oblige to write one if you are not comfortable. I learned that the hard way. I have my own share of battle right now... Sometimes it is better not to write anything at all..
