Texas Reunion

You know, they say "everything is big in Texas" so even though we were a small group of three nightingales that got together, this reunion was certainly big on fun, love and laughter. Mildred, Patti and I had a grand 'ole time reminiscing, catching up, comparing notes and just plain old acting silly --- just like we used to 30 years ago. We occasionally paused to snap a few pictures to share with all of you so sit back, relax and enjoy the slideshow.

Congrats Geegee, Mildred and Patti! It is nice to see you guys reunited! Looks like you really had a day of fun. How long ago was it since you saw each other?

Thanks for sharing with us the video, Geegee. Can't wait to see the one you created for the class!

See you in San FranciscO!

Gee, the one that you sent me through the personal e-mail won't play..the music played till the end but no picture..my husband tried it too, ( he has more tech knowhow than me) pero ayaw pa rin...

Hi, Melle and Oddie. I'm glad you got to see the video. Patti, Mildred and I did have a lot of fun rekindling our ties and we wanted to share the love with all of you. As I told Mildred, I wasn't so sure at first how much fun we can have with just the three of us but it actually turned out to be a delightful, intimate get-together. I still wish I can get the rest of the class to come down to Texas and have a rockin' good time with us though. Oddie I'll check on why you couldn't view the video on my Multiply site. I just quickly posted it there so Mildred can see it before she honeymooned with her sweetie in New Hampshire. It's supposed to be a larger display than the one on this site. Anyways, "redding getty to go" na ba kayo for the SF reunion? Melle, don't forget to pack the kangaroo meat, k?

Geegee McFarlain said...

I just viewed this video on my Multiply site and it seemed fine from my end. If you have problems, perhaps you can just go to http://gee2mc.multiply.com
and click "Texas Reunion" from the homepage.

Hi Geegee!
Ako din hindi ko ma-view sa multiply site.. I will try what you suggested.
Anyway, mukhang ang saya-saya ninyo! Para kayong mga young adults at talagang beauty pa din!! Can't wait to see everyone..Yap! Getting ready for the trip, excited na ako!!
Oddie, I like your suggestion tungkol sa wearing black pants sa Dinner-dance. Very easy nga.. I will bring mine and pair it with a nice top..Bahala na kung mangyari o hindi, basta dala ko in case..
O sige..

Melle said...

Hi again.

Julie e-mailed and said she is now in FLorida. Friend, enjoy your trip and easy on the cherries and nectarines! Remember you are wearing your Cinderella outfit sa dinner dance so try not to put in so much weight.

Geegee, serious ka ba sa kanagaroo meat? Gusto mo something exotic aye? LOL

Unfortunately, I don't think I'd be allowed to enter US customs with meat stuff. Baka mapenalize pa ako and get into trouble. LOL

Si Cecile din gusto ng kangaroo pero yung buhay daw. Mildred, how about sponsoring a kangaroo to travel with me. Then Oddie can take it to San Diego. ( that would be a good class fund raiser) hahaha silly me!!!!

Geegee McFarlain said...

Hi, Ruth! You know, Oddie's idea to all wear black pants and a nice top, I think, will boost the camaraderie and sort of make a statement that as a class "we are one". But for some that already bought their outfits, it's understandable that you'd want to wear that. Nevertheless, don't concern yourselves with trivialitites such as what to wear. The important thing is that what you're wearing is comfortable and makes you feel like you're ready to have the time of your life. Minsan, bongga nga ang suot pero para ka namang sinasakal --- hindi ka rin enjoy dun. Melle, I just want to taste a roo --- tastes like chicken ba? Sabihin mo kay Cecile masyadong malaki ang live kangaroo. Koala na lang, puede? Julie, welcome to the US!!! I hope you have a supercalifragelistic time. Mmmmwah... Love you guys!!!!!!!!

oddie said...

Gee, got to view the video with the site you suggested..thanx.. also got to see the pictures of your friends and family..thank you for sharing your site..you are having a good time in Houston talaga! I know you love dancing...my husband and I do ballrom dancing as well , pero lately we've been busy w/ activities that are church related.
Julie, are you in Florida now, as in now??? when did you arrive??? see you at Sarah's...
Melle, no kangaroos for me, have lots here close to my house at Wild Animal Park..have a safe trip next week....
Chairman Mildred...looks like you are having a good time traveling with you honey....all smiles...
Ruth..black pants and formal or semi formal top sounds comfortable to me and since I am overweight, it really will be VERY COMFORTABLE for me!!! see you in Frisco....
Patti...you look so pretty in your printed pink dress, a prim and proper Texas Southern Belle came into my mind..........

Melle said...

Yes, Oddie, defintitely no kangaroos or koalas live or processed LOL

Geegee, when you come over visit Sydney, we can both try kangaroo meat. I haven't really tasted it but they say it is very lean and very healthy food too. Better than beef they say especially when it is 1 to 3 weeks from killing. So I'll give it a go when you are here! OK?

Geegee McFarlain said...

OK, Melle...I'll put that on my to-do list for my Sydney trip. Btw, just thought it's interesting that we just got an adolescent patient who travelled all the way from Sydney with her mom to be admitted into our adolescent program. She comes from a wealthy family there although I can't disclose the name. I'm fascinated by her accent. I was wondering, ganun ka na rin ba magsalita ngayon?

Melle said...

LOL, I don't think so Gee. Hmmm, I hope not.

Ruth C. said...

Wow, Julie is in the USA na?..Enjoy ka sa mga trips mo, Julie..Easy ka lang on the food--baka hindi na mag-fit ang Cinderella gown mo for the reunion:):):)..Sa Morong, Bataan mo na mga pictures ay look like na hindi ka nagbago--parang same pa din ang built mo, unlike me na nag-gain na ng weight:):)..
Yes, black pants and a nice top sound good and comfy, Oddie--also pang-cover sa mga "fatty areas" ng katawan ko, ha,ha,ha,ha..Comfy din sa dancing...
I have yet to go to these ballroom dancing classes..Seeing your last birthday celebration, Gee2, made me really think about it..Hmmmm???
For sure, Gee2, we will all enjoy the time of our lives sa reunion..Talagang excited na ako!!!
Melle, I was going to write "please bring a live kangaroo for Oddie's backyard" pero meron na pala siya:):):)..Anyway,I have not had roo meat but I love adventure kaya I would love to have some, please:):):)
Mildred, talaga namang lean and skinny ang dating mo sa Texas reunion, ah..Iba na talaga ang "free to travel", no stress life, carefree lady...How's your daughter's wedding preparation?
Patti, I see that you were holding a guitar when you were @ Gee2's home. Does that mean you are ready to go back to playing again, or have you gone back already? You are so good!!! I still remember our college years pag nag-play at umawit ka na (umawit--this is a real Tagalog word, I cannot believe I am using this word, LOL..)--anyway, ang galing-galing mo, Patti!!
O sige na ulit..

Hello Friends! Kamusta kayo! Thanks for the welcome Melle and Oddie! Hooray talaga! Its so nice to be back!
Yap, I am in Florida now! Nandito na ako! Hot here!! I enjoyed the flight. Sarap na ngayon ng food ng NWA di paris the last time I traveled and the seats are roomier. I enjoyed their music more than the movies. We arrived here in Jacksonville, Florida entering Detroit last Tuesday.

Having some bonding time with my Tita and cousin. Heto nakahilata pa kami ngayon. Now ko feel ang bugbog ng biyahe but we had a good and safe flight. We will be leaving Jack on July 01 to San Francisco and I will try and make bulabog our friends here in Florida.

Hala, bumili na ako sa Cinderella, still remember this store, long dress that cost me Php1,600.00 magkano iyon in dollars with exchange rate of 1$= 44.Php; ang cheap ano. And I told Carmen to prepare one long dress/formal dress. Hindi kaya ako magmukhang tokwa!

Geegee, "thank you for being a friend.' Tama ba ako na the song you used is the song from the "Golden Girls"!Checking my tv memorabilia.

Thanks Ruth for the warm welcome, you too, remembered Pattie and her guitar! Wow, Pattie two na kami who haven't forgotten how good you are singing and strumming the guitar!

Thanks for the call Oddie, kahit medyo lasing pa ako sa biyahe still you gave time to say hello! I am so excited to see all of you!

Ladies, roses to all!!! Love you all!!!

Hi...Julie welcome to USA...I can imagine your bright big smile after your plane landed...ahhhhh. finally "dumating na ang mga araw natin...ang tagal ng paghihintay bago tayo magkitakita...bilang na ang mga araw...Excited narin ako.
Magdadala ako ng lahat ng damit na sinabi ninyo...OK lang ang gown or long dress at pati natin ang black pants and nice top...maski na ano. Ang mahalaga ay magkikita tayong lahat".

Melle, I have tasted Kangaroo meat. My sister went to Sydney years ago and brought some Kgaroo meat jerkey. It has some funny taste. It was not like our own beef jerky. You can bring some "kgaroo" jerkey (vacuum packed) to the states. No problem with customs.

Gee2, You made that mini reunion "GRANDE" with your creation. Talagang professional ang dating. BTW, where is Mildred? Did she bring the video copies with her? I hope she mailed them to me right away. I will be leaving June 30. That is 10 days from now...I am worried.

Classmates, don't forget your pictures to put in our scrapbook.

Wala pang sagot si Carol Echalico tungkol duon sa ating special number. Sayang naman kung hindi natin mapapanuod during the gala night or hospitality night.

Sorry about the NAPA trip. We did not come up with 23 people to get the cheap price for transpo...pero pwede pa, kaya lang magbabayad ang isang tao ng mas malaki ang presyo. Alam kong tight ang budget natin. Kung gusto ninyo ako na lang ang driver ninyo...kaya lang aalis tayo ng madaling araw para makauwi rin tayo ng maaga for the hospitality night either Friday or Saturday morning...Sino ang mag aatend ng CE class?

Anonymous said...

Veron,
Please include my sister, Vicky to complete the count and if ok, am willing to sponsor a classmate interested to join the Napa..Oks ba sa inyo? Again, please include my sister and if not..sponsor ko na isa pa. Magkano ba iyon...thanks

Melle said...

Veron, thanks for your feedback on roo meat. That makes more reason not to bring some to the US.

Geegee, aren't you going to the reunion? Why would you have to send the CD's through Mildred.

OK lang Veron if you were not able to organize the NAPA. We can still go. OK din mag convoy na lang tayo.

Melle, Happy trip. Julie Welcome to the US of A. I'll see you at sara's house. We do not have a final count of who is coming to the reunion but I know for sure it will be a blast and something worth remembering. I thank God for allowing us to see each other after 30 years. For those who can not come, good thoughts and prayers wherever you are and whatever you are doing. We still love you :-) CynthiA

Melle said...

Thanks Cynthia! I am starting to pack my things. My sister told me that it is too hot in LA today ( heat wave daw) so she advised me to bring casual summer clothes to San Francisco and check the weather forecast on the internet.

Sorry we could not go ahead with your planned trip to the Sierra Nevada. Sayang talaga! Cecile and Teta have been making plans and just like in the late 70's, hanggang may time, we want to cover as much. After all kaya pa naman ng mga tuhod namin ang maglamierda. Also it is nice of Teta to take a leave the entire time we are there, it is definitely going to be a blast!

So see you at Sara's!

Hi, Melle. Oops! Did I not mention that I might not be able to go to the reunion? You know, I actually already have a plane ticket for SFO that my sister Maila gave me on my birthday. Maila lives in San Bruno (would you believe within the same zip code as Sara) and she wanted me to attend the reunion then spend time with her after but unfortunately my mother had major surgery recently and is recuperating right now so I have to be around to take care of her and make sure she's okay. You know how that goes. Sayang nga pero Patti and I will call you guys at Sara's. For sure, I will be with you all in spirit. Yung DVD na lang ang substitute ko, okay? Mildred tells me there's talk about a cruise next year. I'll just catch up with you guys then.

oddie said...

Melle..bring light sweater with you too...SF weather is different
Last July when I went there, thought it was going to be hot, ended up chilly in the morning and late afternoon..very different from SD and LA weather..did not bring any sweater..so learned my lesson..
Gee2.I suggested the cruise in 2 yrs time 2010..in place of St Lukes reunion, this is the class only..maybe the 4 day cruise boarding San Pedro La; there is a 7 day cruise to Mexico boarding here in SD..amount approx $ 500-700 per person, going to diff cities, as far as Acapulco, Cabo San Lucas.
Julie...did you bring light sweater? if not, I'll bring an extra one for you....
Cynthia...see you seatmate...nice pictures in Multiply website

Melle said...

Thanks Oddie. Yes, I am defintitely bringing a sweater. It is winter time here and when I head back home will need to wear something warm.

Let's talk about the cruise in San Francisco and organize plans so it will really happen.

When I called Dedel she mentioned about signing up in Multiply and I did, so if you guys want to see the video clips I have created for our class they have all been uploaded there. http://melleamores.multiply.com/

Thanks for the tip Oddie. I appreciate it very much. At first, I was adamant not to bring a sweater for it's summer; but Ate told me that it is "cold in San Fo". Kaya may bitbit akong cardigan, (tama ba ito). I tried contacting, via phone, our classmates who are here in Florida, iba ang nag-return call my friends from Bulacan. I will give them a call, if time be friendly, again and keep my fingers cross.

Hi guys, Iam back from my refreshing Texas and New Hampshire vacations. Geegee, thank you so much for the wonderful job of putting our pictures together. The mini reunion in Texas was so meaningful to me since I have been longing to reconnect with my former roommate which I haven't seen for 22 years. We had a good time, acted foolish and young again just like the good old days. The excellent guided tours to Houston Medical Center and your hospitality were precious and very meaningful to me.The conversations that we shared were so funny, good to know that we can still laugh and be silly after all these years.

The video that you created was so powerful, I can't wait for all of the class to see it.I can now hear the loudness of class'78 especially the mahiyain and mabait na classmates like MELLE, VERON, CYNTHIA and Oddie LOL...

Julie, welcome to the U.S. I HOPE THAT YOU WILL HAVE A FUN TIME WITH OUR CLASSMATES. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR LOVELY CINDERELLA gown.Savor your moment with the Nightingale and treasure each moment in your heart.Don't worry , Melle will share some of her Kangaroo meat, I heard from a reliable source that it is very delicious, LOL...

Geegee McFarlain said...

Mildred, you're finally back from New Hampshire. Welcome back to the real world! Bet you'll be swamped with wedding preparations soon so I'm glad you got to see our Texas video before then. I couldn't wait for you to see it. Did you get the stills I emailed to you and Patsy? I miss you already, former roommate. I'm sooo glad we got together. Mmmmmwah!

Mildred said...

Geegee, I got all the emails that you sent, I opened all of them including the slide shows, oh boy , you did good, really, really good !!!:)I showed them to my family and they were impressed. My girls thought that we were like professional models, LOL..

New Hampshire was really awesome. We went to the top of Mount Washington via train which was powered by old fashioned -coals. I enjoyed every minute of it, a time to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. God is really being revealed through His wonderful and magnificent creations. It is good to share these beauties with the one you love, the love of my life for 26 years.

Before the wedding, I still have another preparation to make. The graduation party of my youngest daughter is this coming Saturday, my house will be filled up with young people, about 90 of them. I am cleaning the house from top to bottom, because I had been away, my yard needs some attentions. Most of the time, they will be in the backyard playing games anyway.

Tell Patsy TO BLOG, I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HER .I MISSED HER POEMS AND GOOD WRITING ABILITIES.

BYE, I HAVE TO GO BACK TO MY CLEANING..LOL...

oddie said...

Mildred, welcome back...glad you had a wonderful vacation...
Gee2, did you receive a go-signal from Carol re: presenting the video that you made at the reunion's Hospitality Night?
in case she says yes when we see her, what equipments do we need other than the laptop to play it???
need to be ready for the " just in case scenarios" and my warmest Congratulations to your sister even if I don't know her personally!
Melle or Veron, are you bringing your laptop???

Melle said...

Welcome back Mildred. I am sure you enjoyed another wild honeymoon with the love of your life! Hope to chat with you again.

Oddie, I am travelling alone so I am not taking my laptop along but I requested Cecile to bring hers instead. That's a very good point to raise because we might end up going to a battle with guns but no bullets. LOL When will this be shown, during the hospitality night you think? Maybe Crowne Plaza can provide the audio visual equipment for the function, but better prepared than sorry, we have to find out really soon what else we need in case they approve to present our class video.

I wonder why they have not told you if it has been approved. Maybe they want to have a premiere showing so that they can review it first. Have you sent Carol Echalico a copy?

Geegee McFarlain said...

Have not gotten a response from Carol yet, Oddie, and I don't think Veron has either. I sent Carol an email (did I cc that to you?) asking whoever is chairing the program to consider the fact that a lot more class '78 alums are participating in this reunion and looking forward to being showcased on Hospitality night. I'm still waiting to hear if they can accomodate us. It will be quite disappointing if they can't. I don't think 5 mins. is too much to ask, do you? Especially after the amount of money people had to dish out to attend the event. Besides, they just might find the video quite entertaining. Anyways, you would need a 1)laptop hooked up to a 2)projector and preferably a 3)screen, although a white wall will do. Hotels are accustomed to providing that service and they may already have arranged for a projector to use for the CEU classes. Someone probably ought to contact Lina Philipp (chair for reunioning classes) at 310-464-7962 or stlukes74@aol.com if Carol is unable to make the decision re: this matter. I strongly feel that this reunion will be a lot more meaningful to our class if our video is shown.

Geegee McFarlain said...

Veron, I gave the DVDs to Rachel already. Call me from California so I can give you some last minute instructions.

Veron Orpilla Benitez said...

OK. Caron has not responded to me yet. I know she still have to discuss it with the committee.
Good. I was worried about it. Thanks Rachel. Mildred left a message in my ans. machine...Just extremely busy with my work today...The hospital is building the electronic CARE STATION for the hospital. I am one of the four nurses to do the entire Behavioral Health Services. Very hectic...and also I am preparing for the reunion...haaayyyyyy...So just in case I don't respond alam na ninyo...Mildred, sorry...hindi ako makarespond sa iyo...I bring my work at home also....
See you all next week.
